Demographics of opioid and methamphetamine fatal and non-fatal substance-related 911 EMS dispatches January – September 2022

Dispatches were most common in White males and persons aged 30–39. This age range has continued to be a concern in our NDEWS briefings. While opioid-related dispatches were higher than methamphetamine-related dispatches for adults aged 50+, methamphetamine-related dispatches were higher among younger adults than dispatches for opioids. What was found? Mentions of the pill imprint identified by T 189 have increased in September 2022.

To what does T 189 refer? T 189 is a pill imprint known to identify yellow, circular Oxycodone pills.

How is it being discussed? The T 189 term has gained popularity in Subreddits that discuss opioids. Commenters are using the terms "T-189s", "yellows", and "T189 yellows"to refer to Oxycodone pills with the T 189 imprint.

Proliferation of novel synthetic opioids in postmortem investigations after core-structure scheduling for fentanyl-related substances

A study published in The American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology details the proliferation of novel synthetic opioids (NSOs) in postmortem investigations. Between January 2020 and December 2021, 384 casework blood samples were reported to contain 1 or more of the prior listed 8 NSOs. Read the full study here.
